How much net salary do you take home in Poland, and what does the under-26 relief add?
If you're under 26 and work on an employment contract in Poland, you pay no income tax at all until your gross pay reaches about PLN 123,772 a year, or roughly PLN 10,314 a month. On PLN 100,000 the under-26 relief, the ulga dla młodych, puts PLN 6,395 a year back in your pocket.
On PLN 250,000 it's worth PLN 23,617.
What the relief doesn't touch is ZUS and the health contribution. A 24-year-old and a 44-year-old on the same salary pay exactly the same social insurance. Only the PIT line differs.
How we worked out these numbers
We ran the Poland net salary calculator and the Poland under-26 exemption calculator on this site for a full year on an umowa o pracę, the standard employment contract, at seven gross salaries. The ladder starts at the 2026 minimum wage of PLN 4,806 a month, which is PLN 57,672 a year, and includes the relief's own cap of PLN 85,528. Every figure is in złoty.
For each salary the calculators work through the same steps a Polish payroll does:
- ZUS social insurance for pension, disability and sickness, taken from gross pay.
- The health contribution on gross pay after ZUS. Since the 2022 reform none of it reduces your tax.
- Standard deductible costs for an employee who works in the same town they live in.
- PIT on the tax scale: the lower rate up to the bracket threshold, the higher rate above it, less the annual tax-reducing amount that creates the tax-free allowance.
With the under-26 relief switched on, the first PLN 85,528 of gross revenue in the year is exempt. Anything above that is taxed normally. ZUS is only deductible against the taxed part, split in proportion to taxed revenue, which is the method the Ministry of Finance sets out in its official guidance on the relief. The under-26 calculator explains that split in detail.
The point where PIT starts for a worker under 26 isn't a figure we looked up. We searched the under-26 calculator salary by salary for the first one that produces any tax, and that's PLN 123,772.

The minimum wage leaves PLN 43,274 a year for someone 26 or older, which is 75.0% of gross, and PLN 45,286 for someone younger. At PLN 100,000 the figures are PLN 72,129 and PLN 78,524. At PLN 250,000 they're PLN 155,838 and PLN 179,454.
Why the relief gets more valuable as pay rises
You might expect the relief to matter most to low earners. In złoty terms it's the opposite.
The exemption always covers the same first PLN 85,528 of revenue. For a modest salary, much of that slice would have been taxed at the lower rate or not at all, because of the tax-free allowance. For a high earner, removing that slice pulls income down out of the higher band, where each extra złoty is taxed far harder. So the saving climbs: PLN 2,012 on the minimum wage, PLN 4,896 at the cap, PLN 10,143 on PLN 150,000 and PLN 23,617 on PLN 250,000.
Up to PLN 120,000, a worker under 26 pays no PIT at all in our table. The exemption covers the first PLN 85,528, and the normal tax-free allowance then absorbs the next slice, which is why tax only starts at PLN 123,772.
In monthly terms, someone under 26 on PLN 100,000 a year takes home PLN 6,544 against PLN 6,011 for an older colleague. On PLN 150,000 it's PLN 9,589 against PLN 8,744.
Does a contract of mandate pay more?
Many young Poles work on an umowa zlecenie, a contract of mandate, rather than an employment contract. The table below runs PLN 60,000 a year through four arrangements.
Poland: four ways of earning PLN 60,000 a year, 2026
Download CSVSame gross pay in złoty under each arrangement. Contract of mandate shown without voluntary sickness insurance.
| Contract of mandate, student under 26 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 60,000 |
| Contract of mandate, under 26, not a student | 6,756 | 4,791.96 | 0 | 48,452.04 |
| Employment contract, 26 or over | 8,226 | 4,659.66 | 2,252.88 | 44,861.46 |
| Employment contract, under 26 | 8,226 | 4,659.66 | 0 | 47,114.34 |
An employment contract leaves PLN 44,861 at 26 or over and PLN 47,114 under 26. A contract of mandate for someone under 26 who isn't a student leaves PLN 48,452, a little more, because sickness insurance is voluntary on a mandate and we've left it out. The big jump is for a student under 26 on a mandate: no ZUS, no health contribution and no PIT, so PLN 60,000 stays PLN 60,000.
That's PLN 12,886 a year more than the same pay under 26 on an employment contract. The catch is that none of it counts toward a pension, and a mandate doesn't come with the employment protections of an umowa o pracę, such as paid holiday and notice periods.
What these numbers leave out
The calculators work out a full year's liability. They don't model:
- Your 26th birthday during the year. The relief stops the day before you turn 26, so in that year only part of your pay is exempt.
- Month-by-month withholding. Real payroll applies the rules cumulatively and the tax-reducing amount monthly. The annual total reconciles in your return.
- PPK. Employee Capital Plan contributions aren't netted out here. The Poland PPK calculator covers them.
- Higher deductible costs for commuters, or the higher rate for creative work on a mandate.
- More than one job. Each figure assumes one contract as your only income.
- The annual cap on pension and disability contributions. The calculators charge ZUS on all pay without it. ZUS sets the 2026 cap well above the highest salary in this article, so none of these figures is affected, but it would matter on a much larger salary.
- Self-employment. The relief doesn't apply to B2B income at all.
